How many digits of pi are actually needed?? For most of the sciences 16 digits are enough for the required level of precision. Particle physics needs about 32 digits for analysing the particle phenomenon. 39 digits would be enough to calculate the circumference of known universe with the error of less than the size of a proton. Then why do the calculate it to trillions of places? Apparently there is no reason except to test the power and accuracy of supercomputers.
