How much do you know about your Hairdresser? Did you know Emma Choremi started hairdressing when she was just 12 years old? Did you know the successful McQueens salon celebrates its 25th Anniversary this year? Read on for Emmas full story of how hard she has worked to get to where she is today........ Emma Choremi first began her interest in fashion and hair at the age of 12. So passionate was she, she occasionally convinced her friends to do her homework for her in exchange of a haircut and style! Not that she condones that behaviour now, being the single Mum of 9 year old Dexter! However this entrepreneurial and tenacious spirit has got Emma to where she is today. She started working in a hair salon professionally at the age of 15, which led to her setting up her own salon at 18 years old. This successful salon McQueen’s celebrates its 25th Anniversary on 7th December this year. Emma has successfully managed to keep the business afloat through personal tragedy, sadly losing her Mother at the age of 19, as well as battling through not one but two recessions – the late 1980’s depression and of course the more recent economic downturn. She doesn’t deny how difficult it has been on some occasions, like any small business, Emma has had to have drive and passion to keep things moving forward. So much so, Emma recognised the trend of hair enhancements, amongst many other things, several years ago and has attended various courses to continually develop her skills and experience. As a consequence Emma is one of the two Gold Salons in Bristol for Great Lengths. Because of her success with the Great Lengths product, she was invited to enter the Great Lengths annual awards and is currently a finalist within 3 categories. The award show takes place on September 14th 2014. In addition to her own personal commitment to learning, she regularly trains staff from trainees to successful, self-employed hair technicians. The most notable being George Northwood, a very popular hairdresser with celebrities, such as Alexa Chung, Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Kim Kardashian and Cameron Diaz when she appeared on The Graham Norton Show. George has been known to always thank Emma for the opportunity and her unconditional support in his career. In return George often makes guest appearances in the salon, offering training advice to the current team within McQueen’s. Emma now feels she has the perfect combination of stylists at the salon covering all aspects hair design. Emma’s unfailing determination & savvy eye on emerging trends, she has successfully managed to keep her salon running through difficult personal & economic times, bringing up her young son and continually meeting the needs of her clients. She celebrates this phenomenal success with her 25th year anniversary this December. Well done Emma!
