How to Cope with Impatient People Impatient people can be a pain in the backside when you are the target. Theyll boss you around and push you to your limits to get what they want, even if you havent got the time or resources to help them. What should you do to cope with them? 1) Impatient people are often selfish. Once you recognize this, it will help you to deal with them. Generally they want to be served or to get someplace before anyone else, and they want to be accommodated and dealt with before others have even blinked. They arent very good at waiting or stopping long enough to hear your needs. 2) Stand up to them. Dont let an impatient person run roughshod over you. They should learn very quickly that you mean what you say, and that crossing the line is not OK. 3) Tell them how bothersome their behavior is. Point out to them how ridiculous they are behaving, and mirror their actions in a joking way. Tell them that all their zooming around is making you cross-eyed. 4) Suggest to the impatient person that they seek counseling or anger management. Impatience can be a sign of untreated anger towards other human beings. Demonstrating a ruling the roost attitude at work or home can be very destructive to them and to others around them. You can let them know how annoying they are if you do it tactfully, then consider following this with a suggestion for counseling. Tip: Try and talk in the nicest way; if you dont, it will make them more impatient. Warning: Dont let impatient people ruffle you. Most of it is just show, reflecting pent-up anger or poor planning on their behalf. They havent the right to boss others around or be rude, just because they cant get their own way by shoving or being in front of everybody else in life. The problem lies with them and you have every right to let them know.
