How to Remodel Your Kitchen When we moved into this house we immediately knew this kitchen wasnt for us,or quite honestly, anyone we could think of. Heres how we went about redoing the kitchen ourselves on a thrifty Norwegian budget. 1. Buy all the materials on Craigslist. It doesnt matter if you dont know what you are doing. They will sell it to you anyway. You will have to drive to weird parts of your region and negotiate with life forms of suspect origins to obtain the basics; cabinetry, counters, sinks and appliances in various colors, shapes and with differing degrees of functionality. Hopefully it will all work and look amazing when you are done. 2. Hire Pete Bennet of Handyman Rescue from Odenton, MD (443-558-6553) to do all the work. Hes a carpenter, electrician and plumber all rolled into one. He hits the ground running when he arrives and doesnt stop until quitting time. A master craftsman. True, hes a Brit but he is able to point at things and my years of Mime training allowed us to work through the language barrier. 3. Get your friend Ben Mason to do the dry wall prep and paint it yourself. Craigslist Parts and Labor: kitchen cabinets (used) $1,000 Island countertop and cabinet $190 Kohler sink and faucet $30 countertop from Ice Kitchen $1,000 countless trips to Home Depot $300 Handyman Repair labor $1,300 Not bad, eh Parker?
