How to fix damaged walls with wall liner! Walls with cracks and holes can be covered with Wall Liner at a reasonable cost and they will give your wall a finished sheet rock surface that can be wallpapered or painted. Step one is to clean the wall. Make sure to remove any old paste, loose plaster, peeling paint etc. Next clean the wall with a good cleaner. The best we have found is Trisodium phosphate (TSP). Now, prime the wall. You should use a “wallpaper primer/sizer for best results. Some reputable manufacturers you may want to consider are Benjamin Moore, Wall-Grip, Sherwin William,s PrepRite ,and Zinsser Gardz, Prepz, Shieldz. After priming the wall you are ready to hang the Wall Liner. Some liners are already pasted and other you will need to add paste. For paste, I recommend a “heavy duty clear strippable” paste. Any quality brand you use is fine. It is recommended that you hang the liner horizontal rather than vertical as you would wallpaper. This is especially important if you are going to wallpaper over the liner as your seams will not stack. If the wall is very long you can hang the liner in smaller pieces just do not overlap the pieces. If you have gaps in the seams it is easy to go back and spackle when the liner is dry. Wait at least 48 hours after hanging and before painting or wallpapering to be sure the paste is dry. Use water based paint and/or primer on the liner. It is important to keep in mind while liner will span cracks and holes it will not cover bumps. If you have bumps in the wall they will need to be sanded down.
