Howers Laser Cartridge Tip of the Day: Printer - TopicsExpress

Howers Laser Cartridge Tip of the Day: Printer Placement Printer placement is really more critical that one might think. Locating your printer in a less than desirable place can actually cause it to eventually have a problem. There are even pretty good instructions in your user manual normally provided by the manufacturer about where and where not to place that printer. Here are some suggestions. 1. Do not locate your printer near a window. The reason being is that oft times moisture / condensation can collect on the inside of the window. Not only can this moisture get inside your printer and cause rust to form on the metal parts, but can get absorbed by the paper. Paper will soak up moisture just like a sponge. This can cause paper jams and your printed page to curl when it goes through the Fuser Assembly. 2. Locating your printer on the floor is a bad idea as well. This can cause dirt and dust to accumulate inside your printer, which will put undue wear on the internal parts. Laser printers have cooling fans that suck air in to keep the interior temperatures at moderate levels from the heat caused by the Fusing Assembly. Even when it is placed in a suggested area these fans still suck the dust in and are why good and thorough cleaning needs to be performed at least once a year by a qualified service tech to keep your machine operating in tip top condition. Also, things like pins and paper clips tend to find their way into the machine more often when set on the floor...not to mention liquids like coffee and teas that get spilled and find their way inside the machine too. If located near the floor area due to space constraints, place it on something that keeps it off the floor directly. Like placing it on a milk crate or similar. 3. Locate your printer where the user can access all sides of the printer with ease if possible as there will come a time when you need to open the back or sides to remove a paper jam or similar. I have seen clients that place them where it is a struggle just to open the top to replace the printer cartridge. Make it easy on yourself and your printer tech if it ever needs servicing. By doing this, you will greatly extend the life of your printer, which will give you peace of mind and save you, unwanted repair or replacement costs.
