However, a child’s condition can be improved through early intervention. A good early intervention program has at least four benefits. Firstly, early intervention programmes provide the child with instructions that will build on his or her strengths to teach new skills, improve behaviours, and remediate areas of weakness. Secondly, information is provided to help better understand the child’s behaviour and needs. Thirdly, resources, support, and training will enable the parent or teacher to work and play with the child more effectively. Lastly, the early intervention program will help improve the outcome for the child. For these reasons, a program for the child should be implemented as soon as possible after he or she receives a diagnosis.
