Hungary began chairing the so-called Visegrad Group of four eastern European countries this month. The other group members are the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland, the last of which Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited in June for the first-ever summit between Japan and the group. Kishida hopes to deepen cooperation between Japan and Hungary, particularly in the energy sector, during talks with his counterpart Janos Martonyi because Budapest has plans to build a nuclear power plant and Tokyo is eager to export its civilian nuclear technology.
