Hurricane Cristobal is racing toward the northeast over the North - TopicsExpress

Hurricane Cristobal is racing toward the northeast over the North Atlantic Ocean, centered at 5 a.m. EDT / AST about 325 miles south-southeast of Cape Race, Newfoundland. Maximum sustained winds are 80 mph - a Category One hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Cristobal is expected to lose its tropical characteristics later today but should remain a powerful extratropical cyclone through Sunday over the North Atlantic. Swells generated by Cristobal are affecting Bermuda and the New England coast, and will also affect portions of the southern coast of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland during the next day or so. These swells will likely produce life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Get the latest on this tropical cyclone by visiting the NHC website at hurricanes.gov
