Hurricane Edouard is accelerating northeastward over the colder water of the Atlantic Ocean this morning, centered about 1490 miles west of Fayal Island in the Western Azores as of 5 a.m. EDT/AST. Maximum sustained winds are 90 mph - a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Gradual weakening through tonight is forecast, and Edouard is expected to lose hurricane intensity on Thursday. Swells from Edouard will affect portions of the U.S. East Coast north of Florida beginning today. These swells will likely cause life-threatening rip currents for the next couple of days.
