Hyderabad, November 30: Apart from being acknowledged as a heritage and a cyber city, Hyderabad would also be renowned as a Science City, by early 2016. Budvel is the epicentre of this massive project and is meant to double up as a science hub and an entertainment park. With ace scientific institutions like NGRI, CCMB, NIN, IICT, CDFD, DRDO, etc making its foothold strong in the city, the Science City will indeed be the jewel to the crown The city is one step closer towards becoming one big fat science centre of the country. If Information Technology has been an embodiment, then science would become the quintessence, for Hyderabad is going to get its’ own ‘Science City’ in the near future. The project is a joint venture by the Centre and the state government with a budget of 160 crore. A Science City, a Habitat Centre, an Eco-park and an Education Hub are among the key projects planned by Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) in the near future. The Science City, proposed on 83 acres, would comprise a multitude of attractions. The proposed site for the venture is Budvel in Rajendra Nagar. It would be of international standards with ultra-modern concepts and is expected to attract at least 10 lakh visitors annually. The HMDA had called for fresh tenders in April this year. Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy gave his nod for the proposal at a high level meeting. The key stakeholders in the project are Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Culture and National Council of Science Museum. The aim of establishing a Science City is to portray the growth of science and technology and their application in industry, human welfare and environment. According to the HMDA officials, the Science City will not only be an entertainment park, but also a science hub. It will boast of facilities for research and development in various fields of science like space, nuclear, information technology, robotics and bio-technology. The four key attractions of the Science City will be: Space Theatre; Planetarium; IMAX 9D Vision Theatre and a Time Machine.
