I AM HONORED TO ANNOUNCE... On Sunday November 24, solemnity of Christ the King, Pope Francis will preside at the closing Mass for the Year of Faith in St. Peter’s Square during which he will consign his Apostolic Exhortation “Evangelii gaudium,” (The Joy of the Gospel) to a group of people representing various walks of life and ministries. He will deliver the exhortation to a bishop, a priest, a deacon, religious men and women, novices, a family, catechists, artists, journalists, young people, the elderly and the sick. I feel honored and humbled to announce that I have been included in that group on Sunday, and will receive the Apostolic Exhortation from the hands of Pope Francis on behalf of journalists. I was very excited about two weeks ago when I received a phone call inviting me to participate in this important event. Thanked for my years of service to the Church through my journalism work at the Vatican and for bringing EWTN to Rome, I could not say anything publicly until today, and now I am overjoyed to share this news. When he announced the news at Monday’s press conference about the end of the Year of Faith, Archbishop Rino Fisichella, head of the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization, said the Exhortation “will be delivered to all those in various stages of life who, as Christians, are called to be evangelizers. … The Year of Faith thus becomes a commitment that the Church assumes her duty once again to bring the Gospel to every creature.” The papal Exhortation will be under embargo until Tuesday, November 26 when it is officially presented at the Holy See Press Office. The Year of Faith was inaugurated on October 11, 2012 by Pope emeritus Benedict XVI. With the Apostolic Letter of the previous October 11, “Porta Fidei,” Pope Benedict XVI declared a Year of Faith, saying it would begin on October 11, 2012, on the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Ecumenical Vatican Council, and conclude on November 24, 2013, the Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King.
