I Am Not A Religious Bigot – Nyako. Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa state has dismissed allegations leveled against his government over discrimination against Christians as fictitious, saying that he has never been a religious bigot. The governor asserted that during his tenure, all religious beliefs were given equal rights to practice their religion without hindrance, as provided by the Nigerian Constitution, adding that the accusation of any outstanding certificate of occupancy by any Christian group in Adamawa State which he has allegedly refused to sign is utterly false. The governor’s position was revealed through a press statement signed by the director of press and public affairs to the governor, Mallam Ahmad Sajo. The governor fingered the “deliberate falsehood as promoted by the Christian Elders Forum of Northern States, postulating that the Government of Adamawa State is discriminating against Christian minorities. “This is not only blatantly false but a clear indication that the group has motives other than the promotion of peace and peaceful co-existence in our state. Their assertion is totally at variance with realities on ground in Adamawa State,” the statement noted. Leadership.
