I Am in Mumbai, and Mumbai baffles me, it is not as cosmopolitan - TopicsExpress

I Am in Mumbai, and Mumbai baffles me, it is not as cosmopolitan in its attitude as I thought it would be; I mean yes it is home to people from all over India; that is the only characteristic that I can sense, but then prejudices are high, national ideas or global characteristic that you generally think it would have is missing. They love their Mumbai Mirror, a newspaper in which majority of the news is about Mumbai and its celebrity. You go in an auto, and you will see him reading his Marathi newspaper. The auto wala is careful in sharing that he is not from Mumbai but from some other state. Night life is amazing, young people, young crowd and young life is the only thing which is nice to see. Nobody is interested in you if your are not a Marathi, and my habit of striking a conversation with everybody is looked down upon, even my daughter tells me, is it important to talk with everybody, and I am surprised I say of course it is. But what was unique Maharashtra and West Bengal was the fact that these were the two places where Ideas flew, revolution grew, and intellectual discussions threw up a lot of ideas, and changes happened; sadly enough this is no longer evident. The only thing that remains is the Maratha pride and that of being a Mumbaikar. Hats of to the New Mumbai
