I CAN HELP It always baffles me when I see people who speak authoritatively (rightly so) on specific subject areas conveniently give false information or claim not to know public information. I just saw a teachers conference on Choice News where a teacher asks Dr. Claudius Preville how much VAT has been collected and what is it used for (as she has heard nothing about it). In response, Dr. Preville says he has never seen any information published on how much VAT the Government has collected and all that has been said is our total tax revenue has not increased. On page 24 of the Budget Statement (2014), it is clearly written: Receipts from VAT showed an increase to $298.6 million.Prior to disclosing the figure, the Prime Minister revealed a 90% compliance rate. I must ask, as an economist who is involved in almost every public debate and is the front line analyst for all decisions made by Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony, why would you go out there unprepared to deal with such a topical issue on the economy/cost of living? Or is it that you have the information but would not share it as it does not advance your agenda in any way? It is puzzling to me.
