I GOT THIS FROM A FRIEND: LETTER TO COMRADE SHEHU SANI, DR. ALIYU TILDE AND OTHER ACTIVIES ON THE KILLING OF 7 YOUNG MEN IN APO AND THE INJURIES TO ABOUT TEN NOW IN ASOKORO HOSPITAL. Dear Sir, I couldn’t sleep yesternight because I believe the SSS are trying to cover up the murder of 7 Nigerians who were squatting in an uncompleted building in Apo, Abuja. It is a well known fact that long before now youths from Northern Nigeria (Hausa/Fulani) travel to work outside their states from time to time before the farming season when most of them go back to participate in farming. Those who did not farm travel home to see their families from time to time. Most of these young men engage in all sorts of jobs. Because of the issue of accomodation you see them living in uncompleted buildings all over Nigeria, even in most urban areas of the North. That was how they came to converge in an uncompleted building behind Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja. Most of them were “mai ruwa’, Keke Napep drivers, taxi drivers, and those who do menial jobs. Neighbours have never accused them of anything like stealing or hooliganism. They were living there peacefully and going about their businesses peacefully. Recently the owner of the uncompleted mansion came up there and asked them to vacate. He gave them seven days to vacate or face the consequences and repercussion. Two days after the warning men in uniform stormed the house on the early hours of Friday around 12:30am and went into the house shooting the squatters. After shooting them they arrested some and left. They didn’t care about the injured. They didn’t care about the dead. They just left. They left the dead dead and the injured to die. I was informed by a friend early Friday morning. I rushed there and I saw the dead bodies. Seven dead bodies. I interviewed the people there and got their statements, even some of the rich neighbours came out to agree with the story that the owner of the house had warned that he would deal with them if they don’t leave the mansion. I was there from around 7:40am to 8:30am. I got videos, testimonies. Around 10:30am I saw on NTA the SSS Public Relations lady, Merrilyn Ogar, had issued a press statement that the SSS killed 5 people in the building as they battled Boko Haram. I thought that was outrageous. I immediately know the SSS were trying to cover up their own, the owner of that house. Who is the owner of the house? I am sure the people killed were not Boko Haram. Tagging them Boko Haram is to get away with murder. I think those who carried out the operation must be arrested for questioning. Were the SSS shot at from that building? I can testify that no gunshot was fired from that building and the SSS didn’t get any gun from the building, didn’t go there to look for guns. Why shoot people and leave them to die? Why didn’t they inform anybody until it became scandalous before they rushed to the press? I was the only journalist there with one lady videoing the event that morning. Why was the building not sealed that morning if the young men were Boko Haram? Please sirs, I want all of you to help raise your voice so that this matter will be investigated. I will testify anywhere. I think this is a case of homicide and because this young men are uneducated and have nobody to stand for them the SSS are trying to use Boko Haram to get away with multiple homicide.
