I Just got the sad news that gospel great Andrea Crouch has passed away. Andrea, sometimes called the father of modern gospel music, led the choirs that sang on such hits as Michael Jacksons Man in the Mirror and Madonnas Like a Prayer. As a songwriter, he wrote several gospel favorites, most notably The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power, My Tribute (To God Be the Glory), Jesus is the answer and Soon and Very Soon, a song sung at Michael Jacksons public memorial service. Andrea Crouch bridged the worlds of church and mainstream music for more than 50 years. He had a tremendous influence on me in my early years as a christian. He was a role model to some of us who were fledgling gospel musicians. His recordings brought him seven Grammys, and Crouch also received an Academy Award nomination for his arranging work on the 1985 film The Color Purple. He contributed greatly to the population of heaven and has now joined the great cloud of witnesses. Our hearts and prayers are with his family especially his twin sister Sandra. He will continue to live on in the songs that he wrote and his legacy in gospel music.
