I LOVE Jewish history, particularly Russian Jewish History, which is intertwined with the early 20th century, American, Lower-Eastside Jewish history. This book was written in Stalinist Russia, as Soviet culture changed peoples lives. Alot of stuff happened between 1929-1935: the invention of electricity and the Soviet attempt to eliminate illiteracy, the transition from agrarian to industrial economy, and the incorporation of rural areas and populations into cities, as well as government takeover of agriculture. This book follows the effect of Sovietization of Russian life on the family Khvost in Minsk and shows intergenerational conflict about the effects of communism on the Jewish community and Jewish families. More to follow.
