I LOVE movies. Watching movies is one of favorite past-times. It is a rare movie that can engage, inspire and entertain us while simultaneously revealing the best that is within people. It is even more rare for a movie to be void of violence and negative plot lines. Therefore, Im beginning a new award for the movie that best accomplishes this aim-- the YES Flick award. The best movie of the year that affirms humanity and celebrates the triumph of the human spirit. ** THE 2014 YES flick award goes to Jon Favreaus movie CHEF. Chef is the ONLY movie that I have ever paid to see 5 TIMES in the theater (Ive since bought it and seen it another half-dozen times). Here are my top 3 reasons this is the best positive and inspirational movie of the year: 1. ALL of the characters are shown as being multi-dimensional people with strengths and flaws. Even the bad guy turns out to be a good guy and casting the ex-wife (Sofía Vergara) as a loving and supportive character rather than a shrew is fresh and a good observation on how life could be. 2. Each of the characters goes through a personal discovery as to what--actually, WHO is most important to them and shifts their priorities accordingly. 3. The movie shows clearly how the worst thing that can happen to us often turns out to be the best thing if we will trust our heart and step forward in faith. Finally, as both the star and the Director, Favreau is able to pull out some amazing performances for screen veterans including Scarlett Johansson and Dustin Hoffman. Robert Downey Jr gives his most idiosyncratic performance to date in just 5 minutes on-screen. #Chefthemovie #JonFavreau #YESflick
