I WOULD BE FURIOUS! As a parent, a teacher, and the daughter of a police officer, I AM FURIOUS this was allowed to happen. This is so wrong in so MANY ways! I hope the teacher, the principal, and the school district is held accountable. Police Officer Dad LIVID Over The DESPICABLE Thing His 2nd Grader’s Class Did at Recess A police officer dad, George Borden, is understandably upset that this son’s teacher had his 2nd grade class protesting the shooting death of Michael Brown. Via: Yahoo News- The 20-odd people chanting “Honk if you want justice,” on a New Bedford, Massachusetts sidewalk Dec. 12 got a lot of attention. They were second graders, rallying against police for the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. While the rest of their class enjoyed 11:30 recess that morning, these 7 and 8-year-old protesters stood by the side of the road in front of the Alma Del Mar Charter School holding signs including one that read, “Please don’t shoot me, Ferguson.” George Borden, the father of one participant and a policeman in New Bedford, told WHDH that discovering his 7-year-old had participated in the protest and finding a flyer in her backpack urging people to join a weekend protest “against the unjust systems that allow police officers to kill Black men and boys with impunity,” was “horrific to me.” He says he only learned about the protest after a friend saw it and called him. That father, George Borden, told The Boston Globe he believed the event was anti-police and shouldn’t be condoned by the school. While Alma del Mar says the protest was the students’ idea, Borden disagrees. “I don’t think 7-year-olds can come up with the idea to go out and protest on the street,” he told the newspaper. ABC News could not reach Borden for comment, but Borden’s father, who is also named George, said he agrees with his son. “What second grader wants to give up recess to go stand on a busy street corner and chant, ‘We want justice’?” he said. “My son’s a cop, so he’s really upset, and after his daughter got in the car, she asked if he shoots people.” Watch the WHDH special report in the link below. So this school is glorifying a man who attacked and tried to kill a police officer while railing against police? If my kid went to that school I would pull them out the next day and then sue the school, teacher and principal. As the parent of an eight year old I can say with certainty that second graders would NEVER come up with this idea on their own. This was 100% driven by the teacher and school administrators, and is another example of how sending your children to public schools is a very risky proposition. The teacher involved should be fired, and not be allowed within 100 yards of small children in the future.
