I admit it. Going back to work at Microsoft was something about which I was ambivalent to perhaps a bit disappointed. Not because its not a worthwhile place to work but rather because of a been there, done that response. All else being equal, Id rather feel like Im moving to a new challenge than feel like Im going backward. But since the start of the year, Ive gotten a lot more enthused about the assignment. Why? Because Im asked to do design projects too. Looks like Im designing a series of posters to help evangelize the new branding internally as well as convey some broader messages about the organization where I work. Ive already done a poster, a user interface design, a couple of logos, and wireframes to guide development of templates for SharePoint. At this rate, I will wind up with a nice set of additions to my design portfolio. And the currency of having been paid to do design for Microsoft is quite valuable.
