I agree with Tarek Fatah. I don’t believe that we should be - TopicsExpress

I agree with Tarek Fatah. I don’t believe that we should be flying any flags over our city hall and parliament buildings but the flag of Canada. A flag is a symbol of a country and represents the country and the people that live in it. While we may have embraced multiculturalism and welcomed people from other countries, this is Canada. There are two questions we need to answer. 1) In the war, and today where ethnic fighting is still happening, what is the first thing the conquering armies do when they win the battle? 2) At all events of competition, what is done when the winners represent a country? The flag of the country is raised. Why should a flag of any other country or group ever be raised in the two most symbolic places in our country that tell which country we are and what we stand for. As we can see from the warring between ethnic people in other countries, the flag represents victory, pride and speaks to the history, culture, laws and traditions of the group. We have many people from many countries that have different cultures and traditions and they can celebrate those cultures and traditions here in Canada, but the flag of their country should never flag in places that are totally Canadian. Canada has a national anthem that speaks to the beauty, the pride, the history and the strength of our people, in two national languages We, proclaim our love for our country, our freedom and pledge to never be dominated or taken by another country or by values that are not Canadian. The values that our forefathers fought and died for and passed on to us. The only time that the anthem of another country should be sung is at special events to acknowledge our respect for that country. NEVER, should a foreign anthem be sung at official Canadian events. These may seem like small things, but these are strongest representation of Canada that is known here and around the world. By placing a low value on these, we are allowing others to erode the very fabric of our Canada. Each time, we allow even one value, tradition, or law to be changed or eroded, we are losing our country. I believe that along with the things about Canada that immigrants and refugee are expected to learn, like; speaking one of our two official languages, some history, traditions, cultures, and laws, they should also need to know the words to our National Anthem, and the value of our flag. sunnewsnetwork.ca/sunnews/straighttalk/archives/2014/03/20140326-071823.html
