I almost chickened out and stayed home tonight. I didnt know - TopicsExpress

I almost chickened out and stayed home tonight. I didnt know anyone and Dave wasnt going to be home yet, so the easy thing to do was to stay home. But I have been following Aprils case and really wanted to go to the pink lantern release and show our support even if only wearing pink for her. I dont know her or her family. I live in a neighboring community and only lived here a year, so its all new to me. April was killed 2 weeks ago tonight while walking her dog on a popular trail in the area. She was 14. Its been ruled a homicide and the unknown killer is still out there. The whole thing is scary and my heart feels sadness for Aprils family. I couldnt imagine either one of my babies just not coming home one night. This is something you see on the news... somewhere else. Not this time. The town and neighboring towns are painted in pink ribbons (her favorite color) so you just feel it when you are out and about. We went to a concert in the park last week and then for ice cream in town. There was a lady with sparkly pink shoes and I complimented them. She said, Thank you. Im wearing them everyday. She loved them. I dont know this lady. She didnt know me. But I knew who she was talking about. So today, I talked to Kendall about wearing all pink in honor of April. I told her April was a girl that was hurt real, real bad. Kendall said she wanted to talk to her (my heart melted) and I told her we couldnt, but we need to wear pink for her (how do you explain the D word to a 2 year old?). I am so happy I went. My shy self ended up talking to another family and by the time the lanterns were launching, their daughter and Kendall were friends and in amazement. Watching everyone, together, helping one another, sharing can give us all a little hope after a scary tragedy like this one. It felt uneasy arriving, but by the time we left, the mood was so different. The excitement in everyones eyes over these pink lanterns while honoring April was an incredibly humbling experience to say the least. Im so happy I brought my camera along for this. Here are just a few photos I took. You can follow along to her case via the Justice for April Millsap FB page.
