I always get sad when the reason a potential patient doesnt come in is because we arent covered by insurance. We are working on that here in Maine, but also, there is another way to look at it. I think of health insurance as similar to car insurance - its there for when you really need it, for accidents, serious injury, even annual check-ups in some cases. The rest is up to you. You can pay a little now to wash your car weekly to keep the salt from eroding the frame and various lines. You can pay to get regular alignments and oil changes to make sure your car is running in tip-top shape, which helps reduce the need for costly repairs down the road. Health is exactly the same. We cant plan for accidents, but we can invest in our daily health to help ward off costly needs down the road! NDs teach you how to maintain your health YOURSELF to hopefully avoid chronic illness in the future. A little investment now is FAR worth the long-term savings.
