I always thought that if I could pick someone to be president, Id - TopicsExpress

I always thought that if I could pick someone to be president, Id pick Milton S. Hershey. Lets face it, the man knew how to foster a community that met all the residents needs AND turn a profit. But now I have a different view. What Hershey did in Hershey PA, to me, is the authentic American utopia. This is based on my personal view that government serves but one purpose, to protect my life and my liberty so that I can pursue happiness. While Hershey was successfully cranking out what is the best chocolate in the world as far as Im concerned and funding healthcare, housing, transportation, education, and care for orphans (during WWII no less), the government in its rightful place was providing defense. It seems to me that a lot of our mess is the result of government assuming the role of building community in hopes it will take hold and flourish - but doesnt seem to work. The jobs dry up as with those shovel-ready stimulus projects. Milton S. Hershey was no Samuel Slater out to make a profit with some stolen plans on the backs of abused workers, God blessed his efforts richly, and the company survives him. I wonder if he was a Republican. . . en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milton_S._Hershey
