I am REALLY REALLY not enjoying this ice bucket challenge. Its bringing forward memories that I would very much like to forget for the rest of my life. The living hell my mom endured while caring for my dad through his illness, the pain my kids endured while watching their Papa become entombed inside his own body. Taking turns in the morning before school, to lift him out of bed and get him into a chair for the day. My husband watched his best friend, the man he worked beside, hunted with, played cards, baled hay... was there for everything from helping my mom bathe my dad and carry him to bed, to selling his tractor and all the the things he would never be able to use again. All the while, I stood by, helpless. There was nothing to ease his pain, make him able to speak words, pick up a fork, stand up, give a hug, or in the end, make eye contact. I would like to shove these images away for the rest of my life, because they poison the memories of the wonderful man he was!
