I am a black woman and proud of it. Color has not stood in my way - TopicsExpress

I am a black woman and proud of it. Color has not stood in my way and I have learned so much from the black, white, Indian and coloured people alike......but in my home its a different thing. My nan who dominates the family is 90 years old and still act as though apartheid and slavery hs just been abolished. She sees us doing well as a threat, as if we are joining the white folks she still uses language like the man is keeping us from doing this and that. He is keeping us boxed up and wont let us free. (Bless her, I dont blame her, she lived her entire life under the apartheid) but I always rebut with Nan, no man is keeping you from doing anything but yourself, because u keep thinking the way you think Even my partner falls into the white-man-is-holding-me-back attitude. When he ws recently trying to purchase a car and the sale didnt go through, he remarked with frustration, the white man doesnt want us to get anything I almost lost it and confronted him with how silly that kind of mentality was. But it only resulted in him feeling that I was taking the side of the white man. I remain convinced that the only person who can hold u back is YOURSELF!
