I am a little ticked to hear that our elected officials (Bookmeyer, Solberg, Hickey, and Tornquist) released a statement yesterday saying that they will not participate in forums. In this group writen note they acknowledge that they were aware the public wants these canidate forums but they feel the challengers are focusing on the negatives. To this I say......You are in politics, and up for re-election, of course a challenger is going to point out the negative things youve may have done in office. The Incumdants are teaming up to protect Bookmeyer because they dont want him to talk again and have an outburst like when he attacked Matthew E. Marquardt for Mason City Fourth Ward City Council on the radio. This move by the Incumbents should prove how little they are concerned for the citizens. If they are that proud of what the have accomplished while in office than they should want to face the public, shout it from rooftops and maybe even answer a question or 2. Forums are held to sway voters and all this did was draw a HUGE line in the sand and divide the city more. P.S. dont forget to vote.
