I am a long-time supporter of the inalienable right of Palestine to live in peace and security, with social and economic opportunities for its people. I cannot put my views any clearer than the words used by UN Relief and Works Agency Commissioner-General, Pierre Krähenbühl, who said “Children killed in their sleep; this is an affront to all of us, a source of universal shame. Today the world stands disgraced…I condemn in the strongest possible terms this serious violation of international law by Israeli forces.” I strongly support a two state solution in which both Palestine and Israel can co-exist in peace and security. This cannot be achieved when innocent Palestinians are being slaughtered; the carnage must stop! I have added my name to this open letter by Australian politicians calling for an immediate ceasefire, and an end to the occupation of Palestinian territories and the blockade of Gaza.
