I am appalled, for lack of better word, by the Eric Garner situation. Seems like a sister story, so to speak, to the Michael Brown case and multiple other stories of police brutality scattered across the United States. Garners case, however, differentiates from Browns. There was no provocation from Garner. There were no threatening actions. There is no conflicting eye witness accounts. No discrepancies in evidence. There is just a video of a police officer assaulting an unarmed man by the use of an unlawful chokehold move that later caused his death. There is a video of a police officer murdering a citizen they suspected to be selling cigarettes for fifty cents. The coroner listed the cause of death in the official autopsy as homicide. Homicide. Murder. This is no simple matter. This is not an issue on race. It is not an issue dealing with class or caste. In fact, it is happening in our own back yards with individuals very much like yourself. While I understand that couch protesting doesnt help anyone, I cant understand why this is happening without repercussion. I dont know whether to call out to police for help or to be afraid of them. Did I miss a memo? Are we under martial law?
