I am ashamed to admit that I worked on shrimp boats the in the Keys... We would scoop up everything that was on the bottom of the ocean and it would end up in a moving mountain of fish, crabs, sponges, coral and a few shrimp... We would cull out the shrimp and throw them in the hull full of ice and after this 3/4 of the by catch was either dead or on its way there. We would push all this off into the sea leaving the sea bottom raped of all its creatures and habitat. The shrimping got so bad that companies sold their 90 wooden trawlers and bought 200 steel hull refrigerator trawlers that traveled to Africa and South America to shrimp... The bottom of the see looked like acres of land that had been plowed after we were done but nothing was planted... I believe shrimping is now banned in Florida and if it isnt it should be. :(
