I am blessed to have a life filled with remarkable, vibrant women. Tanya Evans was that kind of woman. She was strong, intelligent, funny and unfailingly warm. She was loved and adored by her husband, J.D.; revered by her children; treasured by her grandchildren. She took care of her dear Mom. She was the pillar of her family. She built a lovely and gracious home that was the center of life for her family and her church community. Everyone was welcome, all the time. Food and music were abundant; love and hugs even more so. She was the essence of a welcoming spirit. To my knowledge, Tanya was not on social media, but her thousands of fans and followers across the country were weeping together last night, in her memory and in support of her family. The Smith home connected with friends across the country last night, and we shed tears together. We are knocked to our knees by this news and by the fragility of mortal life, and that feels right. We know and believe that Tanya and her family will be together forever. Tanya goes ahead, to clear the trail for those she loved most. Tanya Evans is my definition of a pioneer woman, and that, dear friends, never goes out of style. We love you, Evans family. Your names are forever on our hearts.
