I am chagrined to see our elected representatives act so blasé about this kind of money with their posted statement that the $17 million and change will not cause a raise in taxes since the money will be taken from our reserves. I would like to stress: OUR reserves. This money was set aside for emergencies. Obviously, if it is needed and no longer available, OUR taxes will have to rise. Councillor Alan Shefman was Budget Chair during this period when City of Vaughan staff were entrusted to oversee a project that was obviously far beyond their expertise. Even the choice of a construction company who had no prior experience in a project of this nature or scope is questionable. Who else should be held accountable for this debacle?!
