I am convinced now that the different groups of people who went down to the streets to remove Mubarak from power had a very different idea of why they are removing him and what kind of kind of country they want after getting rid of him. This may explain the mess we have right now. I know that now a new consensus seems to have emerged to isolate the Islamists but this is similar to previous moments of consensus that was build upon opposition to an entity rather than build upon a set of goals or principles. Going forward even if the Brotherhood is successfully isolated and marginalized, the current consensus may be lost the next time the government has to make a tough decision or the united front we have now falls apart once they temporarily defeat their common enemy.
