I am even more passionate about getting my Masters in Teaching with the certification in teaching high functioning autistic children now than I was. It seems that once a child with ASD reaches Middle and High School, they are just expected to jump in with the rest of the mainstream children or fail horribly. There is seriously a missing link here. There needs to be a much more extensive program to help these children succeed. They are smart. They are brilliant. They just view the world in a different way than the rest of us. We shouldnt just leave them to sink or swim.
