I am extremely proud of my work, and the path I have chosen which has chosen me. Its taken me nearly 6 years to finally be making enough to support myself; rent, bills and a little extra for fun. When I started I had to work 40 hours a week in a shop with NO PAY for almost a year, I went on to work at another shop with the same deal. Having to support myself with odd jobs on top of it. The hustle. Then I started doing mobile tattoos at $50hr I would lug my gear to and from and set up and break down a car stuffed full of gear with usually no help from the client. I did that for two years. It took me a long time to know my worth. I earned my current rate. I charge an average rate of $100-$150 per hour which is LOW but I only work 1-3 hours per day and generally only 4-6 days per week. Plus I hook people up with extra time. I dont charge for the hours and hours of drawing time, placement and study work behind each subject. Given my pregnancy I am not able to work more than a few hours per day. I was able to work more hours prior. I pay rent, updating studio fees, biz license, tattoo license, insurance, training (cpr, blood borne pathogens), supplies, cleaning etc. I pay all of this and then some. I spend all my time promoting myself shamelessly. Because I work in a city with hundreds of tattoo artists. Most of which have no idea about the significance of tattoo work. They see it merely as body art. For example; The person I learned how to tattoo from makes $250 per hour and rates go up from there. Most people watch tattoo reality shows and have no idea how much anything costs. Think about it... How much did your outfit cost? shirt, shoes, socks, pants? What about your cell phone? How long do those items last? Makes sense to not want to skimp on your tattoo price doesnt it?resonanteye.net/2014/08/04/pay-scale/
