I am fortunate enough to have lived a lot of years. I know how things are now and I know something about how life was in the forties and fifties. In the early years of my life I can remember a sense of unity within our country. There was and always be differences of opinion in our country. Journalism, I am sure had its shortcomings. However, there was a pride about truth in the news. We now have faux news shows billed as "entertainment" news shows where spirited "scripted" debates take place nightly. It is touted that you should hate the other political party. It is touted that politicians should "dig in their heels" and never bend or compromise. Your politicians are pressured to join and vote the way certain wealthy groups require their bidding. When they defy these groups, the groups will run and heavily finance candidates to defeat them in their own districts. These wealthy groups are usually referred to as someone standing up for your rights. In essence frequently the votes of the person you voted to put in office is having their votes stolen that could benefit the general public. These groups are usually referred to as "rights groups". Most of these "rights" groups are not representing the people who send in contributions or dues. They answer to manufacturing or the military industrial complex. It is your rights that are taken away. Your right to have a representative to not be threatened and coerced to vote the way some group wants them to vote, usually for their financial gain. In the private sector this could probably be prosecuted as a type of racketeering or blackmail. We have radio talk show host who make a huge fortune ridiculing and making fun of members of the other political party. They say the exact same stuff day in and day out. This is a if their own party is a explicit example of outstanding governing. Every politician can be subject to vile, crude, inuendo and dispicable accusations. What I am saying is that somehow respect in our everyday life seems to be fading away!
