I am going to need the world, including our Sisters, to gain a little perspective. As a Black Man in America in 2014, especially one living in one of the many urban jungles like Chicago (where I currently reside), we Black males live with two knowledge-induced stresses today: 1.] The stress that I/we feel every day when I/we step that first foot out to leave my home knowing that at any point during my day I can encounter a fellow stressed-out Black Man who might take my life, not because I am Wesley Muhammad (though there is some of that), but simply because I am a fellow Black male like him and Black life is nearly totally valueless in our communities in places like Chicago. We Black Men actually TARGET each other, because the Devil taught us to eat the wrong food when we were a little boy. 2.] The stress that I/we feel every time I/we leave my community, especially on road trips or even when I do grocery shopping on the other side of town, knowing that in the Obama Era where the Angry White Male is a fiery serpent lashing out at Black Men with a zeal and a license that we have not seen since the Reconstruction Era, I can at any point be blindsided by such a fiery serpent: in the parking lot of the grocery store, at the gas station or convenient store, at the mall. The Black Man in America today has both Angry Black Men and Angry White Men targeting and gunning for him in 2014. Do you see the picture?
