I am happy to FINALLY announce THE new executive director for The 2nd Basemen :) Stephanie Luciano was diagnosed with breast cancer, became pregnant benefitted from the The 2nd Basemen...and is the perfect person to be on the forefront of The 2nd Basemen, Inc. providing direct financial support to women and families affected with breast cancer...here is her story in her words... Enchante! To say I am completely stoked at the opportunity to become more involved with the 2nd Basemen is a huge understatement. I doubt I possess the words to adequately describe how I feel, or for what Dusty and the 2B have done for me and my family. I know this is a shared sentiment of deep proportions for all who have been where I was, who are there now, and who, unfortunately, will be there one day, because of those scary words: Breast Cancer. After 15+ years in NPO management, and my other half 30+ years as a chef...life was stable, life was good stuff. We spent our time working, traveling, playing with our dogs and made plans to move abroad...we found a home. When, out of nowhere, I find “something” that just wasnt there before. Truthfully, I did not give it any grave consideration. Other than strep throat, I have never been sick. I played sports my whole life, was healthy, active, and generally did “all of the right things”. October 31, 2012: I received the call from a crying doctor, “the results were not what we expected, Stephanie. I am sorry to be the one to tell you that you have cancer”. As it turned out, it happened to be triple negative cancer. November 8, 2012: I am still struggling to catch my breath, as the utter shock of of last weeks news is still making it difficult to breathe. The news story of today? I am pregnant. I have purposefully left a lot of blanks in my bio. What better way to meet people than to generate their curiosity and unspoken understanding of the struggles we all have been through, directly, indirectly or a combination of both. Here is what I know: We all share a passion. Our paths to get here have varied, but together we have joined our roads to journey together with one destination in mind: TO HELP others by instilling a sense of hope. The 2B does more than “bridge the gap”....it provides life, hope, support, understanding, empathy, care and concern. It gives you light when all you can see is dark. It helps you feel you are not alone when you feel so desperate disconnected. It gives you family. For me, Dusty and the 2B provided me a lifeline, at a time when I was literally drowning. Yes, to say I am completely overwhelmed with euthymia at the opportunity to help be a part of that for someone else, is an understatement. I truly look forward to meeting all of you and say without hesitation, the undying gratitude I have for your support. I would not be here introducing myself without you. Our future awaits....we are not just survivors, but thrivers!! Until next time, onwards and upwards. Peace, Stephanie You can reach me directly at: [email protected] stephanie.tiamat@gmail or 727.218.4314 PS: Dominik, my miracle is a thriving, healthy active 14 month old boy...who will charm your socks off. Come meet him on September 21st @ Hamburger Marys, at the 2B bingo night.
