I am in support of an all weather road connecting the coastal community of Tuktoyaktuk to the rest of North and South America. I see the completion of the highway as an economic boost to the community in many forms. 1. Food, goods and services for the community would become more affordable to all residents. 2. Employment during construction and after shall bring prosperity to residents of the coastal community. 3. Health benefits shall be made more accessible for those requiring dental care, physicians attention and specialized treatment that is available at Inuvik. On the flip side, many other negative and undesirable elements of society will also increase for Tuktoyaktuk residents. Also negative environmental and human tragedies impacts will be mitigated by the highway establishment. And lastly, our peoples are a hunter/ gatherer culture, it shall make geese and water fowl hunting a little "easier" during their seasons. Also, Husky Lakes fishing and recreational use shall be more available during seasons our people do not normally use the resource. In terms of national security, the highway is another way to maintain our Canadian sovereignty. All in all, I see more benefits to our peoples being generated as the result of the Inuvik/ Tuktoyaktuk highway.
