I am just a simple person yet it never fails to surprise me how seemingly smart, intelligent people rely on their own recollection of past events and history as the gospel truth, never to be or can be challenged. Even basic common sense will tell us that the past is the construct of our minds built through fragments of memories that are tempered with personal views, biases and beliefs. The greater the lapses of time, the greater the tempering would be. Perhaps they are not that smart or intelligent after all :-)
