I am known to wear my heart on my sleeve. Especially during times such as today....I do not attend veteran services, do not go out of my way to acknowledge service to our country mostly because Patriotism, soldiering, is part of my Family life. Many of my Tios; Tio Nino Frank Garcia, Tio Tony Flores, Tio Charles Estevez, Tio Ramon Loya, Tio Frank and Ruben Rios, my Son Che Garcia, my Godchild Ronee Smith, cousins Phillip Pipe Garcia, Frank Kiko Garcia, all of us did our duty for our country.......memories of friends that did not come back from Nam, actions that I undertook myself as a soldier, all these memories are part of the baggage that reflex lifes experiences....no celebration, no accolades, no remembrances will ever reflect appreciation for a Vets service to his country. During times we live in, in my way of thinking, these manufactured exercises in Patriotism re-open wounds, psychic wounds of the memories of lost lives, limbs, sanity as a result of service to their Country. So I ask of the American public, become involved in the lives of American Vets. Provide us with jobs, with deserved medical attention, pay attention to our difficulty of adjusting back to civilian life, pressure the Corporate structure to do more for those of us sent to protect their interest. Stop sending us off to War.
