I am looking for encouragement as well as advice. I gave birth 15 - TopicsExpress

I am looking for encouragement as well as advice. I gave birth 15 months ago at home with the help of a midwife, my birth was an amazing experience, 7 hours start to finish, no problems pushing and very minimal bleeding. My sisters have also had similar experiences at home. Bear with me on the length of this question please, my other sister just gave birth to her first child last week with a planned home birth with a midwife. She was allowed to push for 7 hours after already been laboring for 17 hours, back labor at that, it was against me and my mothers want as she begged for a transport after we knew this was not right and we could see the maternal exhaustion in her face but we step aside as we felt like as long as the babys heart was fine we could trust midwifed judgment. About an hour before the baby was born fetal heart rate dropped but she was able to get it back up, it dropped again and then was non existent, my brother in law called 911 leaving me and doula to basically hold up mama to get baby out, she was cut and baby was finally born non responsive, we got baby to cry moments later but my attention was then brought to that I may lose my sister! Praise God the situation ended with both mama and baby doing okay. I am a wreck, having nightmares and panic attacks, beeline guilty that we didnt step in and demand something be done. I can only imagine what my sister is feeling, i want advice as to what I should be telling her, I dont want to only focus on well lets be happy the baby is okay, because I think the fear and pain needs to be addressed and acknowledged. How can I help her through this? I also need encouragement, as me and my husband just started trying for a second and here I am scared out of my mind, I just keep telling myself that the midwife was negligent and my birth was a good birth experience. Thank you for any input or encouragement.-Anonymous
