I am not a fan of grotesque imagery but very rarely does a movie use such scenes with such skillfull mastery that the audience has no option but to accept it. The Last King of Scotland has successfully scaled this elevation and has returned victorious. Both James macavoy and Forest Whitaker play there roles so brilliantly that it becomes easy to establish how they were the best choice for this one. The movie, made on a book of the same name tells the story from the viewpoint of a fictional Scottish Doctor who goes to Uganda for helping the poor and ends up as the personal physician of the then president of Uganda,Idi Amin Dada.As times passes by,the doctor slowly realises that life in Uganda is very different outside the presidential palace and soon finds out about the madness of the king and his brutal methods of settling down anyone who dare oppose him. What I like about the movie is that its in sync with the events of the Ugandan timeperiod like the 1972 Asian expulsion, the hijacked AirFrance plane landed in Ugandan Air space etc. Gillian Anderson of The X-Files fame has a small role in the beginning. In short, this is one Cinematic gem that everyone who has a strong stomach and is above 18 should watch.
