I am not really one to rant here on FB but occasionally I have a day that provides some little bit of clarity or insight that seems worth sharing with those of my friends who know me so, here goes. Earlier today I went on to FB just to check in and see what was up today in the world of FB which I personally use to connect with my musical friends and family....I was so overcome with shocking, sensational posts that I blocked 7 people who chose to share things like some poor guy getting EATEN by a lion in india while people looked on just filming, some kids being shot in the back of the head and a girl beating herself bloody in front of a camera...after feeling disgusted I decided to go out for a cup of iced green tea. Every light I stopped at the cars beside me were texting or talking on their cell. In line at the coffee shop the girl asked the cashier to hold on a min while she finished her conversation before ordering :-( I left and walked over to another cafe and once I had my tea and sandwich, I looked for a table...I ended up next to about 10 woman sitting together, all in their 70s-80s I suspect. They were talking and laughing among themselves. Never once did I see a cell phone. They has some quilts there that I gathered they had obviously all worked on together and were celebrating their achievement in some way. I watched with fascination and listened to them intently. They seemed SO lucid, animated and full of life despite their elderly appearance. When they were through they all hugged and embraced each other as they said their goodbyes with such genuine affection and sentiment. As I looked around the cafe most tables were occupied by 1 person, all with their Iphones. There was 1 young couple sitting together very close on a couch but both had their Iphones in hand and so busy that I dont think I heard them speak to one another. I left feeling both renewed and sad but decided that tomorrow I would go see a friend and just visit with them. I will call the people in my life who matter and not resort to texting them. That I will treat the people I come across during the day with respect and humanity.
