I am not sure how many are aware of this. Another instance of political chicanery! Gasoline/fuel prices were deregulated with the implicit promise that, even though in the short term, the consumer may have to pay more for them, if the international prices go down, the consumer could also benefit, and thus it is a two-way street. However, over the last few months, as the international crude oil prices have fallen drastically, the Indian consumer has not benefited in the same ratio. Know why? Over the last 2-3 weeks, the Central government has RAISED excise duty by Rs 3.75 on fuel, attempting to mop up an additional Rs 10,000 crores (yesterday, it was increased by Rs 2.25). We, the forever fools, dancing to the strings of meaningless drivel such as one so-called Sadhvi, will not feel this pain now, because the prices have gone down. Taking advantage of this, the wolf has played dirty! When the prices go up once again even to the same level as it was when it was deregulated, we would be paying Rs 3.75 more (as of now) per liter! Any one bothered? Is the so-called free and fair Indian media enlightening the public on this one?
