I am not surprised at this. What does surprise me is the number of libertarian leaning Mormons that remain associated this church. This is an organization/ corporation that is led by corporate charter (not by the Spirit as many church members mistakenly believe). The goal of any corporation is for the satisfaction of its shareholders, and you as a member are not a shareholder. This is an organization that is anti-grassroots and prefers a highly centralized hierarchical dictatorial form of governance. This article is a message to any fringe mormons out there. You dont have to submit to church authority. The only authority they have is the authority you give them. I began to feel three years ago that I must withdraw my consent to be governed, judged, and led by this organization. Mormons have their own version of the NSA in the form of endless interviews concerning worthiness (even for children!!! Sick!!) and records which have ever bit of information someone in the church with access to your records felt like including. This could be extremely personal and confidential information.
