I am posting this #StarWars game trailer not because my books have anything to do with Star Wars. This trailer has the soundtrack totally replaced by a fan with a totally different kind of music. It caught my attention because it changes the trailer from a comic book kind of adventure to an extremely gothic/dystopian kind of battle. You suddenly focus on the Gothic side of the trailer. I use a similar technique in my books in that although the serious side is there in books #1 and #2, its easy to perceive it with a more fantasy/comic take on it. When book #3 and #4 come along, the context is significantly reframed, and you suddenly (for some quite shockingly) see a very realistic take on human and alien encounters and the necessity of a life form to do what it must to survive. It is also when paradoxically I ramp up the magic and fantasy aspect of the novel. Yes, I took great glee in writing those last two books in taking and showing how fantasy and magic can be brutally realistic on present day Earth. How? Magic is advanced science that humans dont understand. The context of our understanding is sometimes framed in a our own mythology. These books show what happens when that dreamy mythology is stripped away: the realities of fairies and magic and how they can concretely exist on planet Earth TODAY. This trailer is largely intense battle scenes (though not too gory). Be warned before you watch it. It will warp your mind from a comic book understanding of Star Wars.
