I am reminded of what my dad wrote in June 2012 today as i am at memorial service for a long time friends father. Reaping what we have sowed. How long has it been since you or your children went to a park to see and hear the simple things of life? The butterfly fluttering by, the lizard leaping, the grasshopper hopping for ‘we do not know what,’ heard the Mocking bird making sounds, yet the bumble of the bumblebee, and the humming of the hummingbird all remain a mystery to us. Possibly it is because the Almighty designed us humans, made in His image, to hear the sounds that might protect us as the sound of a thunderstorm, an ambulance approaching, a fire engine, or a police car. A few decades ago children gazed with amazement at the common sights and sounds of their childhood. GOD had given to them the innocence and purity to recognize His presence in our so-called everyday things. Now it is ipods, Ipads, cell phones, and game systems that have driven our children away from the magnificence of GOD’s creations. Some will say simply, “Well that’s the way it is” refusing to accept any of the associated guilt. Yes, guilt. Guilt of us parents in wanting our own time to play, party and indulge in our personal entertainment and/or attend to something now of great importance to us. The great gift which GOD has given us has been pushed aside. The consequence is obvious now, we have sacrificed GOD’S gift to us for our immediate desires but why then do we wonder why our family, the community, state, nation, and world are in such a state of affairs. If you happen to be a parent, a grandparent, or merely part of the life of a youngster, take them to a park, which one matters not, whereby they can be educated and amazed at what is there. If by the water let them watch a school of bait fish move as if one brain directed them when a stone is thrown into their midst. Watch a squirrel pause and contemplate its long jump or a blue jay drive off anything that approaches its nest when the fledg-lings are there. Any park is full of our Creators masterpieces free for us to watch and possibly to learn from. In reality, this is now a necessity.
