I am sad to report that Peter Cardella (my grandfather-in-law) passed away this morning at the age of 97. As many of you know, he was an extraordinary man who was dedicated to the Italian community in Queens and NYC and founded a vibrant senior citizens center in Ridgewood, Queens that bears his name. I am honored to have been part of his family for the last 15 years and we are happy that his great grandsons got to know him so well. “Poppy” gave more to the community than anyone I have ever known and was a loving person who treated me as his own grandson and greatly enjoyed spending time with his family. It won’t be the same without getting into political debates with him after a holiday meal or hearing him gripe on the summer days when the Yankees “took the gas pipe.” He will be missed by all who knew him.
